Breaking Our Rules

I picked a time in history for this story to take place, but none of the worlds you will encounter is our Earth—not Earth in the past, Earth in the present, or Earth in the future. Are there similarities? Of course! It’s hard to relate to a story if you have no reference points to act as a guide.

The world I’ve crafted blends the familiar and the extraordinary. While advanced in some areas, its technology may seem archaic in others. Societal norms have shifted radically, with no bias towards race or gender. Personal preferences are respected, and love is celebrated without judgment. But there’s one more crucial difference, a secret I’ll entrust to you, the reader, to uncover for yourself.

With few exceptions, I didn’t try to provide racial descriptions because I want the reader to have the freedom to see the characters with their own mind’s eye. For example, in Book 1, The Accidental World, you are introduced to the most brilliant mind in the world’s society. He is older, eccentric, quirky, and has no time to trim his eyebrows that stick out like poorly arranged feathers above his eyes. And that’s all I’ll tell you. In my mind, I know exactly who I would pick to play this role in a film, but I’m not going to reveal that thought (at least not now).

But be warned… Please don’t assume that this accidental world works in the same way that ours does. It doesn’t. The cultural priorities are different. Science is different, and the physical makeup of the world is different. Assuming that the accidental world follows the same rules of science and physics as Earth does, could give you a serious headache. And remember, this is entertainment.

Stay tuned for our next journey, where we’ll delve into the concept of a hero in this world. Here’s a clue: Spandex is a foreign concept, and capes are reserved only for special occasions or inclement weather. Intrigued? I hope so!

Good reading to you!
